Overview
The Katsina State Health Services Management Board (KTHSMB) is seeking qualified and dedicated Pharmacists to join our pharmaceutical services department. This Grade Level 10 position is essential for ensuring the safe, effective, and rational use of medicines across our state hospitals. We are looking for professionals who are committed to clinical excellence and patient safety.
The Role
The Pharmacist is responsible for the professional preparation, dispensing, and management of medications within KTHSMB healthcare facilities. Beyond dispensing, you will provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care, review clinical prescriptions for accuracy, and serve as a key advisor to both healthcare professionals and patients on drug therapy and adherence.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Dispensing: Review, validate, and dispense prescriptions accurately and safely, ensuring the right medication reaches the right patient.
- Patient Counseling: Provide expert counseling to patients on medication usage, potential side effects, and the importance of adherence to treatment plans.
- Supply Chain Management: Ensure the proper storage, security, and management of pharmaceutical supplies and controlled substances.
- Clinical Oversight: Actively monitor for drug interactions, contraindications, and adverse drug reactions (ADRs) to ensure patient safety.
- Inventory Control: Conduct regular inventory audits to prevent stockouts or the use of expired medications; manage the procurement cycle for essential drugs.
- Professional Advisory: Advise medical officers and other healthcare staff on optimal drug therapy, dosage adjustments, and the hospital formulary.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain meticulous records of prescriptions and drug inventory in strict compliance with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) standards.
- Supervision: Oversee and mentor pharmacy technicians and support staff to ensure a high standard of pharmaceutical service delivery.
- Committee Participation: Contribute to hospital drug management and pharmacy committees to improve rational drug use policies.
Requirements & Qualifications
Candidates for this GL. 10 appointment must meet the following professional criteria:
- Academic: Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) from a recognized university.
- Professional Registration: Full registration with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN).
- Licensing: Possession of a valid and Current Practicing License.
- National Service: Evidence of a valid NYSC Discharge Certificate or a Certificate of Exemption.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong foundational knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, and drug safety protocols.
- Communication: Exceptional counseling and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate complex medical information simply to patients.
- Experience: Previous experience in a hospital pharmacy or clinical setting is highly desirable.
