Overview
The Katsina State Health Services Management Board (KTHSMB) is seeking skilled and detail-oriented Dental Technicians to join our oral health departments. This Grade Level 07 position is essential for the fabrication and maintenance of dental prosthetics, playing a critical role in restoring oral function and aesthetics for patients across our state hospitals.
The Role
The Dental Technician is responsible for the professional design, fabrication, and repair of dental prostheses, including dentures, crowns, and bridges. Working behind the scenes in the dental laboratory, you will transform dental impressions and specifications provided by dentists into high-quality appliances. We are looking for individuals who combine technical manual dexterity with a deep understanding of dental materials and precision engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Prosthetic Fabrication: Expertly fabricate a range of dental prostheses, including full and partial dentures, crowns, bridges, and orthodontic appliances.
- Interpretation & Modeling: Accurately interpret dental prescriptions and impressions; prepare and cast high-precision dental models from patient impressions.
- Repair & Maintenance: Efficiently repair, reline, and adjust existing dental appliances to ensure patient comfort and functionality.
- Laboratory Operations: Operate and maintain specialized dental laboratory equipment, ensuring all tools are calibrated and in good working order.
- Quality Control: Ensure rigorous quality control and anatomical precision in all laboratory work to meet patient-specific requirements.
- Infection Control: Strictly follow sterilization and infection prevention protocols within the laboratory environment to ensure bio-safety.
- Inventory Management: Manage dental laboratory materials, alloys, and resins, ensuring adequate stock levels for clinical operations.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all laboratory cases, including materials used and work completed.
- Clinical Collaboration: Work closely with Dentists and Dental Therapists to ensure that fabricated appliances meet the exact clinical needs of the patient.
Requirements & Qualifications
Candidates for this GL. 07 appointment must meet the following criteria:
- Academic/Professional: A Diploma or Certificate in Dental Technology from a recognized and accredited institution.
- Registration: Full registration with the Dental Technologists Registration Board of Nigeria (DTRBN).
- Licensing: Possession of a valid and Current Practicing License.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in prosthetic fabrication, model casting, and the handling of modern dental materials.
- Manual Dexterity: Exceptional hand-eye coordination and attention to detail for fine-scale laboratory work.
- Communication: Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary dental team.
- Experience: Relevant experience in a clinical dental laboratory or a hospital dental department is highly desirable.
