By accessing or using any part of the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to all the terms and conditions of this agreement, then you may not access the website or use any services.

  • “Learner” refers to any User who enrolls in a course or accesses educational content or humanitarian analyses.

  • “Member” refers to an approved individual or organization granted permission to submit and host courses or training opportunities, or contribute to news and report analyses, on the Platform.

  • “Third-Party Content” refers to all courses, training, materials, and news/report contributions submitted, owned, and controlled by a Member.

B. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, to use the Service. By agreeing to these Terms, you represent and warrant that you have the right, authority, and capacity to enter into this agreement.

2. Membership, Accounts, and Content Submission

A. User Accounts (Learners)

Learners must create an account providing accurate and complete information. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.

B. Member/Contributor Accounts

Becoming a Member is subject to the ReliefScholars application and approval process. ReliefScholars reserves the sole right to approve, deny, or revoke any membership status at any time without prior notice. Members must adhere to separate Course Submission Guidelines and News Contribution Standards (where applicable).

C. Intellectual Property (IP) and Licensing

  • ReliefScholars IP: All software, design, branding, and proprietary elements of the Platform are the exclusive property of ReliefScholars.

  • Member Content IP: Members retain ownership of the Intellectual Property rights in the Third-Party Content they submit. However, by submitting content, the Member grants ReliefScholars a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, use, reproduce, modify, and distribute the content solely for the purpose of operating, marketing, and improving the Service.

  • Warranties on Content: By submitting content, Members warrant that they have all necessary rights and licenses to the content and that the content does not infringe on the intellectual property or other rights of any third party. Members contributing to news analysis also warrant that their contributions are based on reliable and verifiable information to the best of their knowledge.

3. Course Enrollment and Financial Terms

A. Course Fees

Courses on the Platform may be offered for free or may require a paid fee, as determined by the provider (ReliefScholars for internal courses, or the Member for Third-Party Content).

B. Third-Party Course Transactions

For Third-Party Content, the transaction is solely between the Learner and the Member. ReliefScholars acts as a venue and is not a party to this transaction.

  • No Refund Liability: ReliefScholars is not responsible for handling refunds, cancellations, or disputes related to Third-Party Content. Any such issues must be resolved directly with the Member.

  • Taxes: Members are solely responsible for calculating, collecting, and paying any and all applicable taxes associated with their course fees.

4. Certification and Course Outcomes

A. Nature of ReliefScholars Certificates

For courses developed and taught directly by ReliefScholars, we issue a Certificate of Completion upon successful fulfillment of all course requirements (e.g., passing quizzes, completing modules).

B. Limitations and Purpose

ReliefScholars Certificates of Completion are explicitly NOT:

  • Accredited: They do not represent academic credits or qualifications from a recognized educational institution.

  • CPD (Continuing Professional Development): They are not automatically designated with Continuing Professional Development units or credits unless explicitly stated otherwise in the course description.

  • Guarantees: They do not guarantee competence, employment, or professional advancement.

The purpose of the Certificate of Completion is to formally acknowledge a Learner’s commitment to and successful completion of the course material, supporting the Learner’s personal and professional growth through documented knowledge acquisition.

C. Third-Party Certificates

For Third-Party Content, the nature, accreditation, and issuance of any completion certificate or documentation is the sole responsibility of the Member offering the course. ReliefScholars makes no representations regarding the credentials offered by Members.
