Overview
The Katsina State Health Services Management Board (KTHSMB) is seeking dedicated and skilled Midwife Officers to join our maternal health teams. This Grade Level 08 position is vital to our mission of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality and providing high-quality reproductive health services across Katsina State.
The Role
The Midwife Officer II is responsible for delivering comprehensive maternal and neonatal healthcare services. This role involves providing expert care throughout the childbearing cycle—including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. We are looking for professionals who are passionate about safe motherhood, neonatal health, and empowering women through health education and family planning services.
Key Responsibilities
- Maternal Care: Provide high-quality antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, ensuring the physical and emotional well-on being of mothers.
- Delivery Management: Safely assist and manage normal deliveries, ensuring all clinical protocols are strictly followed.
- Fetal & Neonatal Monitoring: Continuously monitor maternal and fetal conditions during pregnancy and labor; provide immediate, specialized care to newborns following delivery.
- Clinical Intervention: Administer prescribed medications and treatments accurately and monitor patient responses.
- Health Education: Educate mothers and families on maternal nutrition, neonatal care, breastfeeding, and reproductive health.
- Risk Assessment: Promptly identify high-risk pregnancies or complications and ensure appropriate and timely referrals to specialist care.
- Reproductive Health: Support and provide family planning services and reproductive health counseling to the community.
- Documentation & Safety: Maintain precise patient records and strictly adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) standards to ensure a safe clinical environment.
Requirements & Qualifications
Candidates for this GL. 08 appointment must meet the following criteria:
- Academic/Professional: A Registered Midwife (RM) qualification from a recognized and accredited School of Midwifery or tertiary institution.
- Licensing: Full registration and a Current Practicing License with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
- Clinical Skills: Proven expertise in maternal and neonatal care, including the ability to manage normal deliveries independently.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Experience: Relevant clinical experience in a maternity or primary healthcare setting is an added advantage.
- National Service: Evidence of a valid NYSC Discharge or Exemption certificate (where applicable for degree holders).
