Overview
The Katsina State Health Services Management Board (KTHSMB) is seeking diligent and technically proficient Medical Laboratory Technicians to join our diagnostic teams. This Grade Level 07 position is essential for the efficient operation of our hospital laboratories, providing the foundational testing and sample management necessary for accurate clinical diagnosis and patient care.
The Role
The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine laboratory investigations and supporting the broader diagnostic process. Working under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for the end-to-end handling of patient specimens—from collection and processing to the execution of standardized tests. We are looking for individuals with high attention to detail and a strong commitment to biosafety and quality control.
Key Responsibilities
- Specimen Management: Expertly collect, label, and process patient specimens (including blood, urine, and other biological fluids) ensuring integrity and patient safety.
- Routine Testing: Perform standardized laboratory tests across various disciplines, including hematology, microbiology, and biochemistry, following established protocols.
- Reagent Preparation: Prepare chemical reagents and maintain laboratory supplies to ensure uninterrupted testing services.
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate and perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure accurate results.
- Quality Assurance: Strictly adhere to laboratory quality control procedures and participate in proficiency testing as required.
- Biosafety & IPC: Maintain a safe working environment by following rigorous biosafety and infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols.
- Data Integrity: Accurately record and report test results, ensuring that all laboratory documentation is maintained according to professional standards.
- Diagnostic Support: Assist Laboratory Scientists and clinicians in complex diagnostic processes and ensure proper sample storage and disposal.
Requirements & Qualifications
Candidates for this GL. 07 appointment must meet the following criteria:
- Academic/Professional: A Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) from a recognized and accredited College of Health Technology or equivalent institution.
- Registration: Full registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) as a Technician.
- Licensing: Possession of a valid and Current Practicing License.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in basic laboratory testing, sample handling, and knowledge of modern laboratory safety standards.
- Competencies: Strong attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and the ability to work effectively within a high-pressure clinical environment.
- Experience: Relevant experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting is an added advantage.
