Overview
The Katsina State Health Services Management Board (KTHSMB) is seeking proactive and community-oriented Dental Therapists to join our oral healthcare teams. This Grade Level 07 position is a key clinical role focused on delivering preventive treatments and basic curative oral health services to the citizens of Katsina State.
The Role
The Dental Therapist is responsible for providing essential oral health services and promoting preventive care practices. You will work directly with patients to perform clinical procedures such as scaling and polishing, applying fissure sealants, and conducting oral examinations. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about patient education and capable of supporting complex dental procedures under the supervision of a Dentist.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Assessment: Conduct foundational oral examinations and patient assessments to identify dental issues and refer cases appropriately.
- Preventive Procedures: Perform professional scaling and polishing of teeth; apply preventive treatments including topical fluoride and fissure sealants.
- Restorative Support: Assist in simple restorative dental procedures and minor oral surgeries under the supervision of senior dental professionals.
- Patient Education: Lead one-on-one and group education sessions on oral hygiene, proper brushing techniques, and the importance of preventive care.
- Infection Control: Ensure the rigorous sterilization of dental instruments and strictly adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols in the dental clinic.
- Records Management: Maintain accurate and timely dental records, including patient history, treatment plans, and clinical observations.
- Instrument Preparation: Prepare and organize dental units, materials, and equipment prior to clinical sessions.
- Community Outreach: Actively participate in community oral health outreach programs and school-based dental screenings.
- Multidisciplinary Support: Collaborate effectively with Dentists, Dental Technicians, and other healthcare staff to ensure holistic patient management.
Requirements & Qualifications
Candidates for this GL. 07 appointment must meet the following criteria:
- Academic/Professional: A Diploma in Dental Therapy or Oral Health from a recognized and accredited tertiary institution.
- Registration: Full registration with the Dental Therapists Registration Board of Nigeria (DTRBN).
- Licensing: Possession of a valid and Current Practicing License.
- Clinical Skills: Proven proficiency in basic clinical and preventive dental procedures.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to educate patients of all ages effectively.
- Ethics: A strong commitment to professional ethics and patient confidentiality.
- Experience: Relevant clinical experience in a hospital dental department or primary healthcare center is highly desirable.
