About Course

The Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Fundamentals course provides a practical introduction to monitoring and evaluation in NGO and humanitarian projects. Learners will understand how to design indicators, collect and analyze data, track project performance, and report results to donors and stakeholders.

This course equips professionals with the foundational skills required to support accountability, improve project effectiveness, and demonstrate impact in humanitarian and development settings.

Module: Module 1: Introduction to Monitoring & Evaluation
This module introduces the fundamental concepts of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) in NGO and humanitarian programming. Learners will understand the difference between monitoring and evaluation, why M&E matters, and how it strengthens accountability and impact measurement.

Module 2: The Project Cycle and M&E
This module explains how M&E fits within the humanitarian and development project cycle. Learners explore the connection between planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, and understand how results are tracked throughout a project’s lifecycle.

Module 3: Results-Based Management (RBM)
This module introduces Results-Based Management and the results chain framework. Learners will understand the relationship between inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes, and impact, and how these elements guide project performance measurement.

Module 4: Indicators and Performance Measurement
This module focuses on designing effective indicators. Learners will understand different types of indicators and learn how to write SMART indicators that measure progress and performance accurately.

Module 5: Data Collection Methods
This module explores practical methods for collecting data in humanitarian and NGO contexts. Learners will compare quantitative and qualitative approaches and understand ethical considerations in data collection.

Module 6: Baseline and Endline Assessments
This module explains the purpose and design of baseline and endline assessments. Learners will understand how to measure change over time and compare project results effectively.

Module 7: Data Analysis and Interpretation
This module introduces basic data analysis concepts. Learners will understand how to organize, interpret, and present data clearly to support decision-making and reporting.

Module 8: Reporting, Learning, and Accountability
This module focuses on transforming data into meaningful reports. Learners will understand reporting requirements, donor expectations, and how to use M&E findings for learning and program improvement.

Module 9: Practical Application and Case Studies
This final module consolidates learning through real-world scenarios. Learners will apply M&E concepts to practical case studies and prepare for the final certificate assessment.
